Blanco uses surgical grade stainless steel when building its beautiful sinks. Surgical stainless steel is hygienic, rust-free, super durable, and non-porous, which makes it the ideal material for building a sink that will stand up to the rigors of use. What does the gauge of the stainless steel mean? The thickness of stainless steel is measured by its gauge, and the lower its number, the thicker it is. Hence, an 18 gauge stainless steel sink is constructed with thicker stainless than one that is dubbed as a 20 gauge model. Nearly all of Blacno’s stainless steel sinks on the market are made with 18 gauge, with the exception of the Blanco Blancospex sinks, which are made with 20 gauge stainless (and still a great sink made with a thicker gauge than many manufacturers use). What does the term “chrome/nickel content” refer to? The chrome/nickel content is a reference to the amount of chrome and nickel that is found in the stainless steel. Chrome works to give stainless steel its durability and luster, and nickel makes stainless steel strong and hard. When you see the term 18/10 stainless steel, this just means that the stainless has eighteen percent chrome and ten percent nickel in its composition. This is an excellent grade, and a sink with this content of chrome and nickel would be highly resistant to corrosion and rust and would be very durable. You will find the 18/10 grade stainless used on all of Blanco’s Platinum series sinks and Precision sink models. The Blanco Blancospex or Blanco Magnum sink lines have slightly less nickel in them at 18/8 grade, which is still above the content used by some manufacturers. What is a satin polished finish on Blanco stainless steel sinks? Most all of Blanco’s stainless steel sinks are finished in what is known within the industry as a satin polished finished. This is a sophisticated and beautiful finish that Blanco uses to create an easy to clean luster and an enduring shine that is resistant to calcium deposits and water stains. To create this finish, the folks at Blanco use a hand and machine buff process. You will find this finish in the Blancospex models of sinks from Blanco, although the finish takes on a more brushed luster. Why is the undercoating of the stainless steel sink a big selling point on Blanco’s sinks? Blanco uses sound-deadening pads on its Platinum series stainless steel sinks to help reduce or even eliminate some of the sound that using the sink can cause. Traditional stainless steel sinks are notoriously loud, and the clanging and banging of washing pots and pans (or the growl of the food waste disposer) can be intrusive to some households. Also, on the Blanco Magnum, Blancospex, and Blancospex Plus, the undercoating works to eliminate condensation while helping to sustain the water temperature within the sink (while also deadening the sound of using the sink itself). What are the features of the Blanco Silgranit sinks? Silgranit, as the name implies, is partially made from rock hard granite (eighty percent). This gives the sink superior heat resistance (up to 536 degrees Fahrenheit), resistance to chipping and scratching, and imperviousness to alkalis and acids – all while being easy to maintain and a cinch to keep clean. Silgranit sinks are colored consistently throughout and covered by Blanco’s no-hassle lifetime limited warrantee guarantee. What is Physical Vapor Deposition (P.V.D.)? Physical vapor deposition or PVD is a technique of ionizing and vaporizing high-purity gases and metals to create the filmy metal compound that is used to coat Blanco brass faucets and sinks. This process occurs in contaminant-free and airtight surroundings inside a chamber that is vacuum sealed. This innovative process adds exception resistance to chemicals and abrasions, adds strength and durability, and makes the product a lot harder than brass (four times as hard). Other companies use an inexpensive clear coat as their top coat, which is easily discolored by UV light or scratched and marred with little effort. Why are nearly all Blanco sink drains located in the rear of the bowl? Having the sink drain located at the rear of the bowl allows for the most amount of usable and functional bowl bottom space. As an added bonus, having a drain positioned farther back allows for more storage space beneath the sink. You have got to hand it to the folks at Blanco – they really have thought of everything! I love Blanco’s faucet collections, but can these faucets adapt to fit a thick solid surface type or even be used as a thinner, sink-only installation? Blanco’s built versatility into its faucets – and this means that Blanco faucets have a reversible install hub that can be adapted to nearly any thickness for installation – whether thin or super thick. Prior to installing my new Blanco faucet, should my kitchen sink water lines be “flushed”? Yes, they should. Flushing the lines, even if you have a new home, will flush away any sediment that might have built up. This sediment, if not flushed, can end up clogging your new Blanco faucet, which can result in your faucet performing poorly or even leaking. You can always ask your friends at Faucet Depot if you’re unsure about the installation of your new Blanco faucet! We’re standing by to answer your questions, and we promise that you’ll get to talk to a real person when you call.
